You actually can have a happy past...
and you can start any time. Chara Davis learned that the hard way after years of feeling victimized. But learn it she did and she shares her story, her revelations, and her truth in hopes of inspiring others going through their own toughest of times.
What Chara tells—holding nothing back—is the story of her life. For a number of reasons it was not an easy one. It went from happy and content to being dark and dismal literally overnight.
It started when Chara was just four and her mom became very ill. It went downhill from there. She was shuffled off to relatives and family friends, one of whom was a child abuser. But who would believe a little kid?
As things became more difficult and dysfunctional, Chara became increasingly troubled and overweight. Disrupted dreams were her lot. In her late thirties a recovery center located in Malibu, California, would save her life.
While neither an alcoholic nor an addict, Chara was able to gain admittance to a program that addressed her childhood trauma and put her on a path that not only changed her future, it changed the way she saw—and related to—her past.
How Chara approached her recovery will open your eyes to new possibilities for yourself. Even better, who she has become will inspire you to reach for them.
There are many things to be gained from this book. If you approach what Chara says with neutrality and an open mind, you can free yourself from viewing your past as a forever imprint of heartache, darkness and failure. Let go of what drags you down and start to recognize your own disguised blessings so you can propel yourself into a bright and happy future.

I'll be honest, I am not the type of person that reads non-fiction. In fact, I steer clear of non-fiction. I can't explain why. I will say however, I read this book in less than three hours. I think the saddest part is that it reads like fiction, which is insane to me. When someone lives through hellish conditions and is able to sincerely document it and share it with the population, it deserves to be read. While I'll stay away from the plot, as I feel like this story just needs to be one of those dive-right-in-and-let-it-consume-you books, I will say I appreciate Ms. Davis' honesty and willingness to lay it all out there for judgement. While I'm fortunate enough to never have situations like this in my life, I will say that everyone encounters trauma in their lives. It's sad but we all have trauma and not nearly enough of us get treated and help for it. I want people to know that this book will not fix your problems, but it will give you the hope to wade through it and find the help needed to move on and have a bountiful life.I feel as though I've done myself a disservice in not seeking these types of books out before. Chara's writing was simple and flowed. It was an easy read (in terms of length and difficulty) but long enough to keep me interested in what came next.
I respect the author for letting her secrets flow, and at the end of the book I genuinely felt like the book was written not to make money, but to help others, and there is nothing better than that.
Best of luck going forward, Ms. Davis. I'm hoping that we'll get the opportunity to read more of your stories. At the very least, remember that what you've been through does not define who you are. We are all always changing, evolving and learning about our true selves.

This is a must read! It's so true when someone says that people are fighting battles you know nothing about. I love the honesty, inspiration, and encouragement that Chara offers in this book. I couldn't put it down and finished it in just a few hours. Five stars all the way!
Just wanted to say thanks for the great read. Thanks for sharing your many trials and how it is important to work our way through them with God's help anything is possible and you proved this. There were so many times you could have given up. Michele H.
This book was just what I needed. Chara wrote an inspirational, highly personal story to reach out to others...to give hope and inspire others to overcome their past and live for today fully at peace with ones self. Great book!
Couldn't put the book down. Chara is an amazing person, friend and trainer. After having a near-death experience and not knowing how much it will affect my fitness level, Chara is one of the few that I trust to help me on the path back.
I liked the authors choice of the 12 steps to move forward in her life, even though her journey was not an addiction to drugs or alcohol. It was hard to become involved with the story because few personal details were given. She said how terrible her childhood was but did not reference actual incidents.
Wasn't actually my kind of book but that's to imply it's not worth reading by someone else..

If you're looking for a book that will tell you the honest truth about one woman going through many events in her life and need help escaping your darkest days this is your answer.
Chara has been my personal trainer for the last 3 years and has always been there for my family and I. Always offering words of wisdom and ALWAYS saying if you need anything please let me know. Now I have never met any kind of fitness instructor that has cared so much about her clients like Chara does. I couldn't be more thankful to have her take me under her wing and mentor me. I can only hope to be able to offer what she has offered to me to others. Thank you Chara for writing this incredible book. ❤️
